I don't think it's like that at all.
I think America has come a long from that "Me so horny" crap and are accepting not just Asians but a large variety of cultures into the music busy even htough it's little by little. I think the only problem with Americans liking an Asian artist might be because of their english. No American [excluding us] doesn't want to hear an artist that they can't understand and that's the truth.
BoA and Hikki's music is appealing enough to be a success, if their record label would promote them right. Exodus had all the right tunes, beats, whatever to be a success but yall know she got that crappy promotion. Everyone knows that the way to be successful in the music biz is to be promoted on MTV's TRL. XD Seriously, it is.
Well, anyway....
This year will be great year for Asian artists. There is going to be quite a lot of them debuting here. [yay!] And after all that "Tila Tequla" stuff, I don't think MTV fans would turn down asian people much anymore. lol
