And like Luv ~Venus~ said, it's probably that they don't think they can speak english....and most people in America don't want to listen to someone who can't speak english.

Well I still think a lot of Americans are pretty racist against Asians here when it comes to music and Asian stuff. They just start judging right away and don't even give it some Asian stuff a chance. Like the movies and all (with the exception of a few)...and the music...every Japanese artist (basically) who has tried to debut in America failed miserably. It could be because of lack of promotion but who knows? I know that's what happened with Utada.

Also, I don't understand why Americans debut in Japan and are well-accepted for the most part...but when it's the other way around it never works out.
I'm sorry I just think this statement is BS. Maybe were you live it's like that but generalizing every American is like saying every British person carries an umbrella and shouts "Bloody Hell!". Lol.

I think the reason why an Asian hasn't really made it over here is because you never really see very many in the media. Asian's haven't contributed to the music scene and brought a new sound. The Hispanics brought their own flavor to the table, Europeans have, as well as Blacks. But Asians haven't really done that. Maybe in their native country or in underground circles, but as far as reaching the U.S. mainstream audience they haven't done anything. Look at Kung-fu/Martial-Arts, Anime, and Asian Movies/Foods. It's so famous and well known because it was brought into the mainstream instead of staying in the darkness. I think if more Asians came out into the wood's and got with a record company that wasn't scared to promote them I think we would have been had a huge Asian singer. Record companies are scared because it's like venturing into the unknown. And we know how huge record companies are about taking risk's. They don't like doing that, lol.

But as for this deal with BoA? Meh. Her music is really not that good to tell you the truth. To me she kind of has a mediocre/manufactored sound. Not trying to hate but that's just how I view her rmusic. But hey, if she actually pulls through and releases a full English album, I guarantee she'll have better promotion than Hikki, and it could sell well and she'll be known as the first mainstream Asian artist. In one hand I think it'll flop, but in the other as I look at the crap that's hitting it big over here now she'll probably have a good chance if she's promoted good.

You think that's just Asians? Lol, every ethnicity has a sterotype. I don't think that garners towards their never being a mainstream popular artist. But that's just my opinion anyway...

I saw Utada's album well enough when I was here. She would have her own cardboard cutout with a shelf of CDs in it, whenever I walked into some record stores. I think for an entirely new artist with an ethnicity that went against the mainstream popularity, she actually had decent promotion. After all, she did have her own special segment on MTV and commercials for her album. Not many newcomers are lucky enough to get those. I think her lack of success was that she didn't have a single that appealed to a broad genre of audiences, something a lot of other newcomers were able to get lucky with.
Maybe you live in a bigger city like LA because in normal places I saw diddley squat. Matter of fact, when I went to go buy her cd it was pushed way to the back of the shelf. That was after I went to 2 other stores who didn't even carry her cd! The only way I saw or heard about her was that segment on MTV. I wasn't the only one either. Most people across the country didn't know who she was. Plus her single "Easy Breezy" was lame as hell, lol. I love her but that song should have stayed as an album filler if anything else...
