I am always curious about CM mixes (by this I do not mean remixed tracks but actual versions of songs that are never released) and the most common explanation is that they are earlier versions. Perhaps in some cases but I think its also possible that advertisers actually specify a certain sound they want from the song, having heard the completed version intended for release, and then the record company/artist/producers mix or re-record a specific version to fulfill the brief. Ayu's had her share of CM version tracks as discussed but compared to some artists hers differ little from the finished released songs.
A good example of an artist who's songs can differ wildly from the CM versions is Amuro Namie, sometimes even with additional lyrics and backing tracks (Say The Word - KOSE Luminous) or Shine more (Mandam Lucido-L).
I often find myself preffering the CM mixes, which is amusing.
