Yes. Personally, I don't get the people who insist it's their right to say whatever they want, often including mentions of freedom of speech, and then get hysterical when other people use
their freedom of speech to say that they were offended. Not because they're actively looking for things to be offended by, but because some random person can't undo a word's history as a means to abuse and denigrate "lesser" groups. Some Japanese people don't mind the word pretty pony~pretty pony~pretty pony~, but that doesn't mean it can't genuinely hurt those who have experienced racism. So if you say it, be prepared for people to have an opinion about it and understand that they're not obliged to be OK with it just because you are.
