It's basically a story about two childhood friends who shared a strong bond. In the course of growing up, the boy doesn't realize that the girl has started to move away from him, when he does, it's too late and they've already parted ways. The boy has a hard time accepting this, but later on he realizes that all is lost and he'd never be able to get together with his friend again. So he asks himself (her, but rhetorically, I reckon) why he ever fell for her in the first place. He has a few regrets of his own, but in the end he wishes her true happiness, even if it won't ever be with him.
