Didn't Utada try that with "Easy Breezy?" I think that her attempt to sell "Japaneseness" is one of the reasons why she didn't fair well in the American market. I'd like to see some artists make it on real musical talent, personally - not on the exotic foreign qualities of their music/lyrics.
