Have you listened to her mini-album "The Glory Day"? That is the exact definition of soul IMO. She has got compliments and has dueted with another queen of soul too (Erykah Badu). And I think she's a very sucessful artist, 30th best seller in Japan (top 5 or 10 for females), while Mariah being 16th best selling in the US (3rd for a female). No doubt Mariah has a more impressive resume because she has worldwide fame, especially in Japan when she is top international artist by far. But music-wise and voice-wise I think they are very similar.
