8.24.2008 (Osaka) Concert Report

Whoa. Just, whoa.

I went to a-nation's second show in Osaka yesterday, so I figured I would post what I can remember of the tracklist and some more details, since I haven't really seen any pictures around.

My friend and I arrived at the Hiroba Green at about 11:30, so we hit the goods stands, got some food, took pictures with the big blue bear, did special a-nation purikura, and waited around for the show to take off. alan made a quick, maybe 10-minute appearance at something called the mu-mo station, where she answered questions from people in the audience and did a little promo for Sora Uta. She's SO TINY! And so adorable in person.

Anyway, I don't have much time, so I'm going to get straight to the tracklisting, but if you have any questions and want more detail please feel free to ask. Also, I took notes during the concert but someone trampled all over my notebook and I lost a page, so I'm going off what I remember here. And lastly, I didn't pay attention to all the acts simply because I wasn't that interested in some of them, so I'll post the ones I care about most (seeing as I no longer have the page of my notebook).

Opening Acts
  • BRIGHT
1. medley - Kuu's "Butterfly", Ayu's "Moments" (done R&B style, and totally awesome!), Namie's "CAN YOU CELEBRATE?"
2. One Summer Time
3. I'll be there
  • Kiyama
1. home
  • Satomi Takasugi
1. Tabibito
2. Yuu___kaze (Her upcoming single)

Concert
  • Namie Amuro
1. WHAT A FEELING
2. Sexy Girl
3. WANT ME, WANT ME
4. CHASE THE CHANCE
5. Baby Don't Cry
Namie was wearing a strapless, bright orange minidress with black shorts and her trademark over-the-knee black boots. Her hair was simply down. She looked gorgeous, and her performance was amazing! Definitely a great way to kick start the show.
  • misono
-Performed 5-6 songs, last few were a medley.
I had no idea misono was this popular, but quite a few girls in the audience were going berserk when she came on stage. Just by watching the way she moved, I could tell immediately that she and Koda Kumi are sisters.

This is where my brain gets a little fuzzy-- I remember AAA, My Little Lover, Tenjochiki, Riki, Daichi Miura, Tohoshinki...but I was kind of zoned out tbqh.
  • alan
1. Red Cliff (Japanese Version)
2. Natsukashii Mirai

I was so happy when alan came out, I could barely contain myself. For Red Cliff, she came out in a gorgeous black kimono with ornately decorated sleeves that reached the floor, and I could see a dress underneath it and felt like she was going to change for the second number...and she did. She took off the kimono to reveal an ivory colored outfit; the top was like a corset with boning, and the bottom was like a super-short tutu. She looked gorgeous! And to hear her hit those high notes live was just mindblowingly cool. (Anyone who's worried about Red Cliff not sounding so "grand" in Japanese...fear not.)
  • Ai Otsuka
1. Kuroge...680 Yen (too lazy to write out the title)
2. Kurage, Nagareboshi
3. Kingyo Hanabi
4. SMILY
5. Rocket Sneaker

They showed a cute little clip at the beginning of Ai laying on a beach (Hawaii, I'm thinking) and one of her minions is out surfing when he gets a phone call reminding him that Ai is due to be at a-nation...so he goes to pick her up, and when she asks him to get her car ready, he comes up with a palanquin instead. xD And then Ai comes out in a palanquin escorted by two of her minions, singing the beginning of K680 acapella, and pausing after every line to get the crowd riled up. She wore a red/black shirt with a poofy skirt, and what looked like rhinestone Hello Kitty high-tops! Totally cool. The sun was just setting when she sang Kurage, Nagareboshi and Kingyo Hanabi, which was magical. And hearing them right next to each other only reinforced my belief that Kurage, Nagareboshi is the love child of Kingyo Hanabi and Planetarium.
  • Maki Goto
-She performed two songs, though I'm not sure what they were. The second song was one she either composed herself or wrote the lyrics for...whatever she did, she said she did it for the first time. I wasn't that blown away, TBH.
  • Remioromen
-5 songs, the last of which was a new song entitled "Motto Tooku e"
  • TRF
1. ?
2. Boy Meets Girl
3. ?
4. Live Your Days medley, don't know the other half
5. ?
6. no more cry ~SURVIVOR DANCE~ with Tohoshinki
First thought that popped into my mind when they came on stage was, "Damn, they all look a hot mess." But then Yuki toned her outfit down and Chiharu and Etsu changed and Sam put a shirt on, so it was all good. SURVIVOR DANCE was way fun; Tohoshinki came out and sang along. The one that's super good at break dancing was having like, a choreographed fight with Sam on the catwalk that had some pretty fancy moves in it. But I hear this isn't a number they've done at the other concerts, so it was pretty cool to see.
  • Koda Kumi
1. Lady Go!
2. Venus
3. Cutie Honey
4. Moon Crying
5. Once Again
-dance battle-
6. FREAKY
7. BUT (I think?)
8. Crazy 4 U, Real Emotion, Butterfly medley
9. I honestly can't remember....
?. Shake It Up (She sang it, I just can't remember when)
I thought her setlist would never end, omg. She was in a hideous pink outfit with pale pink lipstick for the first 5 numbers (Kuu, I'm asking you nicely: please don't ever try that again) and then put on some horrid baggy jumpsuit for her more hip-hop numbers. Don't get me wrong, I love the girl, but it was a serious mistake making her the last artist. I would have much preferred to see Ayu, obviously, but TRF got everyone going a lot more than Kuu did and as such, the end of the concert was kind of a letdown, sadly.

And that's that. I feel amazed to have been able to see so many artists I love (except Ayu, of course) and hopefully I'll be able to make it again next year.

Word to the wise: if you ever go, bring something to sit on! There are no chairs, just dirt. And bring your own food/drink.
