News Flash...
MTV was doing damage control for itself. It got a lot of flack for having Britney on last year when she was obviously in a really bad state. It got a lot of flack for pulling her in just for ratings due to that.
MTV got her back on the VMAs because it's such an awful show that has no relevance in the music industry now; because MTV is RealityTV. If you look at the list for ratings, back in 2006 they were at a low, 2007 (Britney) brought the ratings back up, 2008 (Britney) the ratings were even higher because people wanted to see.
MTV is definitely using her as a ratings cow.
They awarded her because of three possibilities: She deserved it (not based on her previous work. She was up for JUST that video/song, nothing else.), she was being catered to for coming and for fan satisfaction by receiving these as pity awards (have you seen her fans lash out at her never winning?), they were doing it for their ratings and damage control both parties for Britney's 'true' comeback.
Regardless to all the makeup and gorgeous dresses, Britney needs to focus on herself more than her career. You don't bounce back as fast as she has and have your head on nearly straight.
Too many fans are expecting her to come back and be better than ever, and at that expense she may sacrifice her health again.
