Oricon reports based on retailers that suscribe to them. Since not all retailers subscribe, oricon is a deflated figure on how much the CD actually sells but it's the best indicator so far i guess. Anyhow, it's an ego boost for artistes that are consistently highly ranked. Or at least their record labels.
Personally, i feel oricon is more prestigious than RIAJ awards because at least you know the figure reported are solid sales and most people look at oricon to see how an artiste is faring comparitively. So A Complete is doing great! No.4 in it's 4th week... How about 5 for 5...

i'm surprised that it's selling better than A Best 2, and so soon. it seems like A Best 2 had a lot more promotion and general hype.
