Anyways, I'm sure it sounds good for Japanese people. ^^
Well, the Japanese language is all about context. I read "mitsumeru sono saki ni wa" here as not only meaning "before gazing" but "before finally seeing (the beloved) for who he or she really is". Not just seeing but looking. Gazing. Studying. Really opening your eyes to what is before you, in other words. Rather than using "miru" which could simply mean a casual glance, Ayu uses the more forceful "mitsumeru". Also, one thing about the Japanese language is it is all about subtlety and is quite vague so that there is no one clear meaning, unlike the English language which values specificity.

I don't see how it's a strange choice of words. One should never doubt Ayu as a lyricist Haha! It's actually very difficult to come up with one true translation of any of her songs because she really knows how to use the Japanese language. So much is lost in translation.
