Do you really think so? I'm not saying you're right or wrong, but I personally don't think we would've heard about these sort of things. I can understand if she broke up with a boyfriend or had a new love and she wanted to share the news. But I don't think she'd share family news with any of her fans whether it be in a magazine interview, song lyrics, etc. It just seems too personal. The only one she'd talk about it with, if anyone, would probably be her best friend.

I had never heard it either, but I found it mentioned in a few different Japanese sources. Of all the theories it does seem to be a plausible one. Ayu did describe her mother as being kind of young and wild and her mother and father were never married; it wouldn't exactly surprise me if she got involved with a young yakuza member. It is still just a theory as far as I can tell, but it would help explain some things.
