I agree that the quality popular American music is declining but i think you should look at the sales trend for following weeks as well. Albums on japan charts almost always decline quite drastically in subsequent weeks but US albums can still sell hundreds of thousands in later weeks. The most i give Exile is 2 million but i'm sure Britney will go over that. This is only the first week sales, maybe there's no need to read too much into it. |
That's true to an extent, however the point still remains that albums sold in only one country (with only half the population of the US) can sell the same and often times outsell those from the US that are available world wide is pretty amazing. Logically that just shouldn't be able to happen.
I also think that US albums are also getting more and more front loaded in their sales as well. It used to be albums would keep selling pretty steadily for years sometimes, but that doesn't seem to be the trend the last couple of years. Britney's last album for example, even to this day has not hit 1 million copies in the US.
