It's sad to see a Japanese article related to music not mention Amuro, Ayu, OR EXILE, especially when EXILE dominated the charts, Amuro made an AMAZING comeback to her former glory, and Ayu with her ever-expanding ASIA TOURs and continuous advertisments and #1s. And not even Aoyama Thelma was mentioned, when she had at least a top ten (not to mention a few #1s) on almost all the yearly charts.

Although I find it an interesting read, the article really didn't elaborate well on the Japanese side of it. BoA debuted at #1 (yes, even though that album "The Face" was released in February, and she wasn't on Kouhaku), but she does not characterize Japanese music, IMO.

Who I think DOES characterize Japanese music includes GReeeeN, Aoyama Thelma, EXILE, Ayu, and Utada. Perfume is becoming a force to reckon with, GND close behind, and Amuro is quickly becoming the comback queen.

...to a lesser extent Hikaru Utada.
This quote disturbs me the most, though. Does he not realize she dominated iTunes with "HEART STATION" (the highest selling studio album by a female soloist), she just came fresh from "Flavor of Life", which was second to Avril's "Girlfriend" worldwide, and was voted favorite artist for the third time by Oricon readers?
