Ayu is actually another example of why I think its an opinion. You say she's better than ai otsuka and koda kumi, but she damaged her voice from improper singing, while the other two are fine. Sure she has more years on them, but like her lives now can sometimes be atrocious while namie, koda kumi, and ai are fine. I just included namie to prove that years doesn't mean ur voice should die. But like aiko is another example anyways. She's been in the industry as long as ayu but her vocals are fine!
If you think a singer has good vocals, thats your opinion, and if you think another singer has bad vocals thats fine. lol : ) I'm just stating my opinion that its more about how people percieve it. Of course there are people with bad vocals but I think most singers have good vocals and thats why they're singing. We just don't appreciate some vocalists because we don't like the sound of their voice.

Well... Good vocals aren't a matter of opinion, but of course... You can like or don't like a singer without taking in consideration if he/she have good vocal skills or not...
Utada's Kremlin Dusk at Utada United for example... I know a lot of people that think that performace is amazing... But if you ever show that to any singer teacher or vocal coach, I'm 100% sure he/she will ask you if she really is a singer :B
If I say that singing good is having beautiful vocals, I'm lying, beautiful or ugly are a matter of opinion, you can like koda or ai vocals even if they aren't good taking their Vocal technique in consideration , Utada is my favorite music artist in the world and she is far from sounding perfect
