I happen to love VK bands, a lot, and I am nowhere NEAR under the age of 15. And not all of them dress like women with bad taste, it's mostly just the make-up that they are doing these days.
As for bands/singers I think are overrated...
Britney Spears
Miley Cyrus (why is she popular again?)
The Jonas Brothers (just...no.)
Akon (he doesn't even SING, it's a computerized voice over his own voice...)
I've started to think Linkin Park is a bit overrated, too. I love their older stuff, but they pretty much went mainstream and I can't stand that.
I don't know much about Japanese music besides the bands I listen to myself, so I can't really comment on that aspect of it.
