Sometimes the interludes add to the album as a whole. IMHO Marionette would have been way too long if ~prelude~ hadn't been a separate track - while Marionette is a good song without ~prelude~, having it there allows me to enjoy the song in it's full form if I wish. Also for Opening Run~Connected, I think the interlude adds to the album (I always thought that going straight from I Am... to Connected would've sounded weird!)
I agree that heaps of interludes will be detrimental but they're generally listenable both on their own and in the album. The task* interludes are great, I wouldn't be disappointed if one came up in the new album.
