I think this definitely shows how much power Ayu still has. We saw her release singles years ago with no videos, and those did well, and now she's releasing a single with no television appearances or magazine promotion that STILL goes to #1 with pretty decent sales - that's pretty amazing.

I think some people are also forgetting online sales - I know a few websites (including CDJapan) count towards the Oricon charts. I'd say her fanbase has definitely grown some, and I bet some of those people (who had to order through those sites) bought the new single, and maybe that's why it did better than some people thought it would do.
