Ahhh!!! I forgot to mark ENKA, which I am a big fan of.
Never used to be. It's a Japanese ballad song. Enka is usually sorrowful and the story of love lost or longing. These are ballads that are in a newer style than traditional Japanese music. In fact, they are a combination of performance and ballad singing. The style uses delayed vibrato. I really like Nagayama Yoko and Hikawa Kiyoshi among others.
