maybe she likes them and thinks they're good and not horrendous
she probably thought there was nothing to worry about, but the covers are just not what a lot of people wanted/expected.

he doesn't put a gun up to her head and tell her to "make this face OR ELSE!!" it's all ayu imo, and her recent diary pics she takes of herself proves it. but honestly, i don't think the facial expressions look too bad on these covers, mainly because i don't see any 'fish lips' but maybe they'll show up in HQ lol
