I think the reasons why people don't like the covers have been stated several times.
Of course there is going to be negativity - if people think that the product is substandard, why should they heap praise upon it? As for covers not meeting expectations? I personally had no expectations. I didn't even think about the cover once until I actually saw it - its just not good regardless of what peoples expectations might have been.
