but to be honest, i have a feeling that some people just bought these tees(with ayu's pics), not knowing that the one in picture is ayu.

the perfect example that i saw with my own eyes: (Read at your own risk)

When i saw them at Bugis, there was a group of 5 or 6 aunties hanging around the store and flipping through them, finding their prefer colors.

I happen to be on the phone, so when i saw the ayu tees, my normal reaction is to scream 'OH! Ayu!!!' to my sis on the other line. Then the sales assistant told me in chinese, 'ya, all these racks are Ayumi Hamasaki's tees'

the aunties heard that and one of them realise that this is a picture of a japanese, and she told her friends that. One of them actually put back the tee so fast as though it contains germs and exclaimed that no way is she wearing that, her father-in-law will kill her if she's wearing a Japanese girl tee. While 2 of them put the tees back as they don't want to look like a silly teenage fangirl, yeah...they were complaining about how lame they were look if they bought them home and how their kids will laugh at them. WTF??? (>_<)

The poor sales assitant even get scold for not informing them that the person in the picture is a japanese artist....LOL.....
seriously, they ALMOST bought them already, and even compliementing that the girl in the tee is quite pretty, but they just don't want to buy after realising it's an japanese artist's tee????
As much as i love Japan, japanese culture and ayu, i must say i (partially) understand their reaction. I saw you in one of the pics you posted at the pics thread, and you are a young girl, so it's perfectly normal your confusion.

I just finished reading a book from an amazing new writer, Tan Twang En, called the gift of Rain. I'm not making this long, because it may get too political, but the japanese army left huge marks on the lands they invaded last century. and they were not good at all. Of course it's extremely stupid to make prejudices about all japanese people , and from a young gal who had nothing to do with that, but it's clear (specially from old people who lived through that period) they still hold resentments about the crimes japanese army commited. I think that would explain their attitude towards the t-shirt.
