I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but actually most Japanese's personal names are in Kanji, but there are also many females who have their first name in hiragana.
Most of the time when someone has their name written in kata
kana it is when it's a foreign name (like 土屋
アンナ Tsuchiya Anna, 木村
カエラ Kimura Kaela, and 青山
テルマ Aoyama Thelma), or when they simply opt to use katakana aesthetically as their artistic name if they're in the media.
But it is true that hiragana is viewed in a way "childish" or cute. In Ayu's case, I think they went for the hiragana because it's "cuter".
