The r&b thing... well... at least Cystal Kay, Mai Kuraki, Ken Hirai, BoA, Namie and Koda released tons of r&b influenced tracks and they are among the biggest names of this decade... There are more, I'm pretty sure some boybands touch r&b too, but I can't say anything about them cuz I don't really know their music
