My point was, is that it probably could have been anyone to do it. Doesn't matter if it was Mai, Utada, whoever whoever and certainly doesn't matter if the person wrote their own lyrics or music; that's just a bonus. The genre was just waiting to break wide open and Utada was really at the right place at the right time with the right connections and catchy songs.
I realize that probably makes me sound like an Utada hater, but I assure you I'm not. In fact I was an Utada fan before I was even an Ayumi fan.
