I don't think Sparkle was ever really frowned upon. Just where did you get that from?
I remember some members mentioned that the lyrics were quite sexual in nature, but when they were translated, people wondered what the heck they were talking about. In the end, I think most of us concluded that Sparkle was misinterpreted as being sexual at first glance, but later was confirmed to not be true. (Referring to masa's comment in his
Sparkle translation thread: "If we say "look on enviously" in Japanese without using the idiom, it should be "urayamashi sou ni mite iru". As you see, it's far longer than "yubi o kuwaeru". And I feel it's smart and poetic to use this idiom than to say "urayamashi sou ni mite iru" in direct way." and "I repeat my comment on the page 4 of this thread. "Yubi o kuwaeru" is not a slang but an idiom we commonly use with no sexual image. It means "do nothing but look on something (someone) enviously"."
