It's legit, one of google's biggest sources of income (if not their biggest) is their ad engine. A
ton of the ads you see online are powered by that. What they do, in the youtube case, is they put an ad on youtube videos with a lot of traffic and pass on a percentage of the profit to the uploader. Sort of a way of encouraging people to upload original content.
