Subject matter = yes, very sad. But I think the song itself is not trying to sound sad at all. Do you understand what I mean? It's like..., the lyrics paint a pretty depressing picture and people who have gone through an unrequited love will relate to it pretty well, but I think as a song it just gives more a warm and fluffy feeling as opposed to a depressing one, that's all. Not once have I listened to Days and thought "Wow, this song is really depressing." which is more along the lines of what I would think when listening to say, GUILTY than Days.
