I've never been afraid. I listen to music every single day, on the bus to and from school, at night before bed, in the car, etc. etc. The thing is, I don't feel worried because if I do blast the volume on my music loud, I don't blast the volume while I'm listening through earbuds/headphones, or in a small area where it fills the whole room. The only time I feel one should be worried about hearing damage due to music is if you're playing the music at a volume too loud for the size room you're in, and too loud through headphones.
