All new material in my opinion can be embraced by fans, it's just that a lot of fans let their expectations get in the way and that ends up leading to disliking the album. NEXT LEVEL was thought to perhaps be a "next level" for her musically by some people and ended up not satisfying their interpretation of the title, so they thought she 'failed' but I think she succeeded on some level by venturing into a genre she hadn't dabbled in too much during her career. I hope people will be able to enjoy this album and not simply repeat what has gone on for the last 5 or 6 years with people declaring that this album is "her worst ever" and that "her career should be over with this release" and so on. It's just so disappointing to see fans of an artist be such downers about a new release that I sometimes wish I were part of a more positive fandom that actually appreciated whenever an artist released instead of constantly comparing everything to previous works and how much better things were in the past.
I agree with this so much. I mean yeah, people have a right to their opinion, but to me it seems like some fans go looking for the bad in each situation, when really things aren't so bad at all. I notice a lot of people here enjoy pointing out/talking about the negatives more than positives. Here is just an example:
