hmm, this is just my interpretation, but "last links" for me means that the sensation and emotion she's describing in this song is the last, final tie that holds the world and people together -- knowing we're connected no matter the distance, knowing we're not alone even if we stand alone, etc. those thoughts are the final, but most important, bonds between us.
ETA: Masa, might I suggest "soothed" in place of both calmed AND stopped? Soothed means the same thing as calmed, but it sort of implies something more poetic and gentle --
