I think "stopped" would be best since that's what she actually said in her lyrics (止められ), so it'll be up to whoever's reading to interpret it as soothing/calming the anger of the world, you know?
I sort of would rather like to have translations that pretty much say exactly what Ayu's trying to tell us so that what she's saying doesn't get lost/mixed up in the process of translating.

Fair enough! I don't know why I didn't stop
(lulz /dodges bricks) to consider the
strength/force/impact of 止められ as opposed to 和らげる -- toss that up to me being forgetful, I guess!
I prefer as close to the original phrasing/words as possible as well, and I think masa does a great job of making them flow nicely from Japanese into English and still having them be poetic

I guess I'm just letting my flowery synonym side take over x_x Apologies!
