I am totally not confident in Japanese yet but my Japanese teacher told me that in Japan there is tv show where they give cushions to the guest whenever something funny or interesting or whatever is said. The tv show seems to be really popular and so people are using the sentence "zabuton ichi mai" in their daily life, too. We had a learning text in our book with this sentence in it
Maybe he is referring to that? Even though I don't know it makes sense in that context..
