I agree. I was at kinokuniyas on sunday in new york city, and my friend and I were in the music section. (I bought ayu's rnrc cd/dvd)

anyways. There was this kid in there too who came from an anime convention held a little bit away from kinokuniyas and all he did was look through the "anime music" section. he looked through bleach, naruto, one piece, yada yada yada. and he bought a few mangas, then walked out. I could tell that he knew absolutely nothing out side of anime. He didn't even take a 1 second glance at the "japanese pop" section right freaking behind him. All he cared about is what was being played in anime.
My friend is a bit like that also. He doesn't really listen to japanese music, but the few songs he has from japan are all from anime openings and endings. >>
