I've even translated the song in finnish and I don't think your option even fits together with the lyrics, at least from my point of view. x)
Oh is it really so??? O__O Because I haven't EVER heard it called pulverilumi, I have always called it puuterilumi...how strange..
Oh, and I checked that too. It seems that at least when searching the word "puuterilumi" Google gives a lot more searchs than word "pulverilumi" [puuterilumi gives 17 600 and pulverilumi just 977] Also, I checked my English dictionary, and powder snow's official translation is puuterilumi, it doesn't even mention such word as "pulverilumi".
However, when searching [from dictionary] word "powder" it gives the following words: jauhe, pulveri, puuteri, ruuti, puuterilumi

It might be some slang term then? For my point of view puuterilumi is much more common and also officially used one [and also more beautiful, pulveri remainds me of those washing powders : D]
Sorry if I sounded harsh, but I just wanted to point out : P
