While I don't necessarily think it's PR, the timing of it certainly makes it seem like it might be. I mean, please... Ayu shows up at Kouhaku in a wedding dress singing "Virgin Road" and a few hours later she announces she's engaged. And the tabloid newspapers use a photo of her in the dress at Kouhaku for the news story. The timing seems very deliberate. Her album/single just released, CDL, etc... I couldn't help but think the announcement of her deafness could have also been really, really good damage control. At the time, she totally made a fool out of herself with the Together When... performance at Kouhaku -viewed by millions- and a lot of fans started to talk on mixi/2ch, really concerned about her voice. And all of a sudden she's deaf in one ear? And it's headline news? Vocal quality has nothing to do with not being able to hear. Her vocal cords were obviously damaged during that CDL, she was as hoarse as a lion.
Seriously, there's nothing wrong with ~conspiracies~. Not everything should be evaluated at face value. Face it y'all, Ayu is involved in a shady industry (Max Matsuura himself is a shady as hell businessman). It has nothing to do with pessimism, it's being realistic, lol..
