Lol, ok, I understand now. Sorry for creating the misunderstanding.
The whole message is supposed to read, "Were you crying? I was right behind you." But because ayu split the sentences into 3 lines, it gives the impression that she's the one crying. But in the original Japanese, it's very clear that the "I was" is linked to the 3rd line, not the 1st. Sorry for all the confusion.
