Well, Ayu didn't ABSOLUTELY have to scrap HOTEL Love songs, but she did so probably for a number of reasons:

a) Her current show is probably much further under budget than HOTEL Love songs (and given the financial state of things, it's probably much easier on avex this way)

b) Due to the recent crises at the nuclear power plants, setsuden has been put into effect, whereby energy conservation is of the utmost importance in Japan these days. That being said, Ayu's new show effectively cuts her usual energy usage in about half, realistically speaking. No super flashy lights or sparkling stageworks like NEXT LEVEL and RnRC means she's doing her part to continue her tour and abide by her country's wishes during this time of urgency.

c) Honestly, unless you're physically in Japan, you have no idea the kind of impact the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disasters have had on the morale of the country as a whole. I'm profoundly moved by the Japanese people's resilience and strength during a time like this. Keeping that in mind, however, if you take one look around the city at night, you would absolutely know that the March disasters have left a huge scar on the country and its people, and in spite of how much they're trying to stay positive, there is such a solemn, mournful atmosphere about the entire nation. There are no celebrations of any kind taking place (including the usual firework festivals which go off without a hitch every summer--they have been effectively canceled by the government), so why should Ayu produce a flashy tour in the advent of what has happened? I think this reason was the one that had the most profound impact on Ayu's decisions to revamp her tour as POWER of MUSIC.
