I don't think this contract is a rumor. This is totally Hollywood style. Many people in showbusiness have their employees under contracts and they are not allowed to speak personal details of them to the press or curious people (ie Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Katy Perry). Ayumi has an image to the public that she probably wants to protect and she's probably afraid that he somehow wants to profit from her fame . I'm pretty sure Mannie is not one of them,but if you belong to entertainment you probably don't want people to know too personal details. It does prove also, like emi said, that she unfortunately doesn't really trust him.
In top of that, I've always thought Ayumi is the kind of person that's too worried to show a image of perfection in front of the public, very goddess like, so this would even make more sense.
