Oh, man, I remember this rumour from when I was first getting into Ayu....
I still don't think that Ayu would care about him meeting the press, it's more avex's doing as "damage control" etc. Mannie comes off as a good guy - he met with Ayu's fans in LA, he interacted with them on Twitter and at airports...and Ayu is the one who called it quits. Although we don't know what went on behind closed doors, I don't remember K-Fedd meeting with Britney's fans for extended periods...
Ayu doesn't care what the media thinks of her, which is why she doesn't do heaps of TV lives or interviews beyond ViVi. Avex cares about the fickle group of customers who may not purchase CDs due to "scandal" so they're protecting their finances. It's what any good company would do (although their handling has so far been pretty poor), protect their profits so they can survive.
Ayu's been pretty frank with her fans so far, in a "screw the haters" kind of way and I think that if the industry was more open to the idea of women keeping their careers after marriage and returning to work post-divorce, then we'd have everything out in the open. But ask yourself why this hasn't been reported by a reputable source, or why there's no media footage of people asking Ayu about the situation and her ignoring the questions, or proof that her US lawyer didn't deny their claims. I haven't seen any such thing, so I'm not inclined to believe what's printed in a tabloid (unless it's about Scientology) without backup.
The truth is always much less interesting than the lies, though...
