I haven't read any of the lyrics yet, so I can't give an opinion on that... Actually, it's probably unfair of me to give anything from this album a decent/fair opinion considering I haven't been following Ayu for the longest time. x) (Don't hate, kids lol.) All I've heard so far is the live version of Party Queen and I just got done listening to Eyes, Smoke, Magic.
Party Queen reminds me a lot of Sparkle, though that doesn't mean it's bad or good. I enjoyed it. No, it's not very "Ayu" (even though we can't all expect consistent masterpieces, or else we would grow tired of them!), but the fun feel is nice. I don't know, I kind of like the new Ayu. Not that I didn't like the old one, but I like where she's going. I like that she changes things up.
Eyes, Smoke, Magic was (I'm sorry to say) amazing. xD I'm not even joking. Maybe I'm a little biased because I like this kind of music (jazz, show-y, Broadway-ish). And let's face it, I (and if I recall correctly, quite a few other fans) have been dying to hear Ayu pull off a jazz track. No, her vocals weren't superb, but you can't expect exceptional quality vocals with this kind of song. It's doable, but I don't think one should set their standards too high. I don't know, I thought the song was pretty cool. Literally, it was "cool". I had every image in my head: the spinning, snapping fingers, fedoras on heads tilted to the side, hip bopping... Heck, Liza Minnelli popped in my head many times! XD
Alright, enough chit chat. Time to see what the other tracks sound like.
