I agree with emi, she shouldn't have responded at all. And she DID insult him by saying it tells something about his character. She didn't make it obvious, but it's there and Ayumi knows exactly how to use words effectively to subtly reveal just what she is saying.
And to add to that it even seems unlikely that he even wrote that himself and I doubt Ayumi is still in enough contact to him to know if he wrote it either(but even if she is and he did write it himself, still not a very classy response)
