After an artwork tease and 19-day countdown site, Namco Bandai has attached a title and platform to its next mainline entry in the Tales series. Tales of Xillia 2, a sequel to last year’s Tales of Xillia, is in development for PlayStation 3.
Set one year after the events of Tales of Xillia on the planet Elenpios, the game stars hero Ludgar Will Crusnick (CV: Takashi Kondou) and 8-year-old heroine Elle Mel Marta (CV: Mariya Ise), who has a pet cat named Lulu. Daigo Okumura is character designer, and Ayumi Hamasaki is back for the game’s theme song. Ufotable is once again on animation. The story features player decisions with branching cutscenes. Like Xillia, the sequel’s characters are built to realistic proportions. The game’s battle system makes use of a new “Weapon Shift” system, allowing Ludgar to change weapons mid-combat – from twin guns to a two-handed hammer or twin swords.
The game’s official site will be accessible shortly at tox2.tales-ch.jp. It is due for release this winter in Japan. A final date will be announced on June 27.

『Tales of Xillia 2』 Product Launch, All New Information Report!
【Theme Song to be by Hamasaki Ayumi once again】
“The game this time will still have the name “Xillia”, therefore we tried our best to push this through with avex.” With that, Producer Baba revealed that the theme song for this game would be produced by Hamasaki Ayumi once more. At that point in time, the song had already been created, and is currently being incorporated into the game’s animation scenes by ufotable.
Accompanying this announcement was a message from Hamasaki. Similar to the previous theme song “progress”, she did a background check on this game’s storyline before writing the song. “I had the story for “2″ explained to me. Then I wrote the song, incorporating my own feelings within as well,” Hamasaki commented. As with the previous game, this song would surely be a perfect fit to the game’s worldview.
