The "older act + newer act" collab tends to work a lot, and benefits both the older one (who is noticed again by the newer generation) and the newer one (as it borrows some of the veretan prestige), and as far as the song is good, there isn't anything really wrong about it. Also, she doesn't need to just put her voice on a random kpop song (unless it's BigBang's song), they can find a mid-term that tends to be pretty interesting.
It's not like Ayu never done that before... Actually, she always had duets with people that could boost her image during Ayu Ready... both top tier veterans and fresh young stars.
Also, the most you say Ayu's discography is "spotless" or like to see her as a high artist of any sort, most of her biggest hits are either generic summer tracks or generic winter tracks... She is aiming the mainstream since day 1.
