^ Haha, while you have a point doubt that is the case.

TV appearance on Gurunai Gochi special was announced this morning. [Dec. 27 NTV 18:30~20:54]

I hope she won't end up losing a whole lot of money again.

It's a food variety type of show for those who don't know. More info:

The show in question, called “gochi ni narimasu”(ゴチになります) is the staple feature of a variety comedy program called “Gurunai”(ぐるナイ). The basic premise is that a group of TV stars go out to high class restaurant, where the menu has no listed prices, with a goal of individually eating a certain value worth of food, this time it was ¥30,000 (~US$300).

The show follows the group, which consists of about four or five “regulars” and one or two special guests, as they gorge their way through a course of luxury foods and guess their individual running bill.

But there’s a catch – as there is almost always a catch in Japanese shows! The person who is the farthest off the preset value has to pay the tab for the entire group, generally in the ten’s of hundreds of dollars. One person is also chosen randomly to buy “souvenirs” for people, at an additional cost of another few hundred.

I’ve continually wondered what it is about this show keeps people (including myself) watching – it’s apparently been on over 10 years; maybe it’s the depiction of fancy foods most people will never eat, or maybe it’s the sadistic ending of watching some poor sap of a TV star shell out all their money to pay the exorbitant bill.

What ever the reason, I must admit, strangely, that it has made me want to try it sometime with friends, though at a significantly cheaper place!

(Oh, and this time the final bill was ¥227,500. One of the regulars lost after personally eating her way through ¥39,600 worth of food!)
