In Japan, amongst Ayu fans there's something called Bold & Delicious shock (ボルデリショック = boruderishock). Bold & Delicious was the turning point when many fans thought she lost her marbles, and many people started hating her. If you google the japanese, you can find many people talking about it LOL
So in fact, this hasn't been going on for just 1 or 2 years, but ever since 2005. With the advent of itunes and other ways of getting music, people just dont want to buy her things.
