Yeah she wasn't really gone from anywhere anyway.
At least ayu is being consistent.
She probably wishes to release singles because they themselves promote the album eventually, they also have tie-ins unlike most album only tracks. Even though, yeah you don't have to have singles for this but it should help to some exent and they are a part of the Japanese music culture anyway, Japan is the country where singles sell the best.

I know, the point was that it didn't do as well as popular DVDs or singles.
Besides again, Feel the love/Merry-go-round is not a comeback single because ayu was never gone.
I doubt that most people in japan who are not hardcore fans know that it's her first single since a few years ago.
