One problem was the delay. Before, we'd gotten post-album remix CDs much faster after the album's initial release, so the "buzz" from the album itself was still relatively high. With ayu-mi-xes 1 though 4, we got the remix albums five months MAX after the album, so the album still felt relevant... with RMX WORKS, it was twice that amount of time.
Also, after the "best of" format of ayu-mi-x 4+selection and the fact that all Ayu's legendarily remix-packed maxi singles dropped off around that same time, we emotionally said goodbye to remixes. We were pretty much sure remixes were now permanently a thing of the past, so there wasn't much excitement or buildup for a new remix album, especially when it didn't come out right after the album. When it DID get released it was like "Oh, I guess this is happening."

Really interesting! Thanks for all the information, I love hearing about the atmosphere of the Ayu fandom and her releases back then.
