I agree with Zeke about the importance of Japanese melody.
Personally, I think one of the strongest element of Ayu's discography is her earlier remixes. Now I think of it, they are great not just because of big-name western producers, but because of the contrast between highly Japanese melodies and the western productions. And Ayu's voice, unlike those more vocalist voices, can really deliver that contrast fantastically.
