She is in the industry for decades now. she is probably standng in the studio and is like "okay, we have to sing that part here...make this longer..".and so on and so forth. She never came across as someone that is not involved in her music.
She made the strongest transition in Jpop ever and it was all her own decicion - she created her own image and that is something most other divas lack: the courage to take risk. I beg your pardon, but move aside - Namie is coming.

I think that image and actually singing are two different things. I'm just going by the definition of a karaoke singer, one who sings somebody else's songs. I agree with what you said in most places and I'll meet you halfway. She's a karaoke singer who knows what she wants.
